Getting started

Key concepts

The building blocks of Grizlet and how they fit together.

Account

Your organization's home in Grizlet. An account has its own name, branding, web address, team, learners and plan. Everything in one account is invisible to other accounts.

Spaces

An account can be split into spaces, for example one per department or product line. Lessons, folders and sequences belong to a space. Team members get access to individual spaces, so the HR team doesn't have to see the sales team's drafts. Learners, Media and themes are shared by the whole account.

You switch between the spaces you have access to in the menu under your name in the left sidebar. See Spaces.

Lessons and cards

A lesson is a short sequence of cards: text, images, video, quizzes, polls and other interactive cards (up to 50 cards). The first card is always the title card. Learners go through the cards one at a time; quiz answers are evaluated immediately and the lesson ends with a score. See Card types.

Each lesson has:

  • an internal name your team uses in the admin, and a public title learners see,
  • a status: Draft (only your team sees it), Published (available to learners) or Archived,
  • an access setting that decides who can take it. See Who can take a lesson.

Learners

The people who take your lessons. They don't have a Grizlet account or a password. Each learner has a personal link to the lessons you share with them, so their results are tied to their name. See Learners.

Sequences

A sequence sends lessons to learners one after another — for example a new lesson every week to every new learner, starting the day they're added. See Sequences.

Team and roles

The people who build lessons and look at results. There are two account roles:

  • Owner — manages the whole account: settings, branding, team, spaces, integrations and plan. Owners can edit everything in every space.
  • Member — has access to chosen spaces, in each space either as an editor (creates and changes lessons and sequences, manages learners) or a viewer (sees lessons, sequences and results, can comment, can't change anything).

See Team and roles.
