Learners

The people who take your lessons — no account or password needed.

Learners in the left menu lists everyone in your account's learner register. Learners are shared by all spaces of the account. Editors and owners can manage them.

Inviting your people

The quickest way to start: click Invite learners, paste your people's emails and they get a welcome message from your company. See Inviting learners.

Adding a learner

Click Add learner and fill in:

  • First name, Last name and Email (required),
  • Phone — needed for SMS,
  • Job title, Team, Location,
  • Date of hire — available as the {hire_date} variable in invitations,
  • Language — see Learner's language,
  • External ID — the ID from your HR system or LMS.

To add many learners at once, import them from Excel or Slack.

Learner's language

Language sets the language the learner sees Grizlet in: the buttons and texts of the lesson player, invitations, reminders, the welcome message and their My overview page. The lesson content itself — the cards — stays in the language of the lesson. With Same as the lesson (the default), everything follows the language of the lesson, as before.

Your own invitation text is sent exactly as you wrote it. When you leave the message empty, the default text is in each learner's language.

Addressing learners by name

In some languages the first name changes when you address someone — in Czech you write “Ahoj Martine”, not “Ahoj Martin”. Grizzi AI works out this form (the vocative) for every learner in their language, and Grizlet uses it in greetings on the My overview page, in reminders and challenge messages, and in the {first_name_vocative} variable of invitations. In languages that don't change names, it is simply the first name.

The Vocative column in the learner list and the learner's Details show the form for each learner. If it's not right, click it in the list, type the correct form and press Enter — or change it in ⋯ → Edit (the form from Grizzi AI is shown greyed out in the empty field). It's then marked edited. Clear it to go back to the form from Grizzi AI. The column appears when some of your learners get messages in a language that changes names (for example Czech, Polish, Ukrainian, Croatian or Lithuanian).

Every learner has a personal link that is included in every lesson you share with them. Opening a lesson through it starts it under the learner's name, so their results are recorded — no sign-in needed.

Personal links are short, so they fit well in a text message or a chat: for example https://courses.example.com/go/k7Hq2xM9pAb3Rt1, or https://app.grizlet.com/go/… if your account has no custom domain. Links sent before keep working.

Each learner also has a My overview page with all lessons assigned to them.

Resend invitation in the learner's menu sends them the welcome message again.

If a personal link got to someone else, choose Reset link in the learner's menu. Links sent so far — and the old My overview page address — stop working; share the lesson again to send the new link.

Removing a learner

Remove in the learner's menu takes them out of the register. Their personal links stop working; their results stay in the lessons.

Finding learners

Search by name, email, phone, job title, team or location. Filter by group, by status of their lessons, by quiz score, by when lessons were assigned or by Language (Same as the lesson shows learners without a language of their own). The Overdue card shows learners with a lesson past its deadline. Select learners to:

  • Assign a lesson…
  • Add to group…
  • Add to sequence…

The learner list

For each learner you see their language, the vocative of their first name (when it applies), their groups, when they were added, the lessons shared with them, their last activity and the time they spent in lessons (counted only while the lesson was open and the learner was active). With gamification on, you also see each learner's Points, Streak and Badges — the three newest badges, with +N for the rest (hover to see their names).

Personal data

Names, emails and phone numbers of learners are personal data. Keep only learners you need. An account owner can delete an individual result in a lesson's Results.
