Gamification

Gamification

Points, stars, streaks and badges that motivate learners to finish their lessons and come back.

Gamification adds a little game to learning: learners earn points and stars for their lessons, keep a streak of learning days, collect badges, take on challenges in sequences and, if you want, compete on a weekly leaderboard. It never changes scores or results — a lesson is passed or not exactly as before.

Gamification is part of the Business and Enterprise plans. It's on by default; the account owner can turn it off, or turn off single parts, in Account settings → Gamification → Settings.

Who gets what

Points, streaks and badges are kept for learners in your register only, so they need their personal link.

Points

ForPoints
A question answered right the first time10 (matching and ordering: in proportion to the pairs or steps right)
A lesson without a single mistake20 extra
A lesson without questions5 for completing it
A sequence completed (its completion criteria met)50
A challenge completed before its deadline100

Points are counted when the learner finishes a lesson. Lessons and sequences completed before gamification started count too. Taking a lesson again earns nothing — the first result counts, just like in results.

The end of a lesson

When a learner finishes a lesson, they see:

  • stars — one for completing the lesson, two for reaching its pass score, three for no mistakes,
  • the points they earned (with a breakdown when there's more than one kind), how many questions they got right and how long the lesson took,
  • any new badge they earned, with a little celebration.

While going through a lesson, three or more right answers in a row show a short 3 in a row! bubble.

You see the same in the lesson preview, only nothing is kept and no badges are given.

Streaks

A streak counts the learner's days in a row with a completed lesson. Weekends don't break a streak — someone who learns Monday to Friday keeps it going; learning on a weekend counts as an extra day. Today doesn't break it either until the day is over.

Badges

Learners earn badges automatically for learning milestones:

BadgeFor
First lessoncompleting the first lesson
Flawlessa lesson without a single mistake
Sharp mindfive lessons without a mistake
On a roll, Week strong, Unstoppablea streak of 3, 7 and 30 days
100 points, 500 points, 1,000 pointsreaching that many points

Badges for streaks need Streaks turned on, badges for points need Points. Challenges can give your own badges — see Badges. A badge, once earned, is never taken away. Learners who already qualify (for example for lessons completed earlier) get the badge the next time they open My overview or finish a lesson.

What learners see on My overview

On their My overview page, learners see their points (and how many they got this week) and their streak on the Home tab, right under the greeting. The Profile tab repeats them and has the Badges section: earned badges in colour, the ones they're working towards in grey with a bar showing their progress.

What your team sees

  • Learners — Points, Streak and Badges columns.
  • Learner profile — points, streak and earned badges.
  • Dashboard — how many learners completed a lesson this week, the average streak and challenges completed.
  • Challenges in the left menu and Account settings → Gamification → Badges — see Challenges and Badges.
