Challenges

Give a sequence a deadline and a reward — points and a badge for learners who complete it in time.

A challenge turns a sequence into a goal: complete the safety lessons by Friday and get the Safe start badge. A challenge has no conditions of its own — the learner completes it by meeting the sequence's completion criteria before the deadline.

Challenges are part of gamification and need Challenges turned on in Settings.

Adding a challenge

  • In Challenges in the left menu, click New challenge and choose the sequence. A running sequence has to be paused first.
  • Or open the sequence and click Add a challenge below its lessons.

The challenge settings open on the right:

FieldWhat it does
TitleWhat learners see. Pre-filled with the sequence name.
DescriptionOptional — what it's about or why it matters.
To complete the challengeA summary of the sequence's completion criteria. Edit completion criteria opens the sequence settings.
DeadlineNo deadline, Within a number of working days from when the learner joins the sequence (weekends extend it), or By a date (the end of that day).
RewardPoints (fixed: 100 for the challenge, plus 50 for completing the sequence) and, with Give a badge, a badge.

To remove the challenge, click Remove challenge at the bottom.

Choosing a badge

With Give a badge on, the panel shows the selected badge. To pick a different one, click Change badge below its name:

  • Gallery — ready-made badges for typical topics (onboarding, safety, compliance, sales…). Choosing one adds it to your account's badges.
  • Our badges — badges your account already has, so one badge can be the reward of several challenges.
  • Upload new — your own image from Media (Business and Enterprise plans).

Next to the selected badge, Badge name renames it everywhere it's used.

How the deadline works

  • With a deadline, the lessons the sequence sends get the same deadline (unless they already have an earlier one). Learners see it in the invitation, at the start of the lesson and on My overview, and get your account's reminders before it.
  • If the sequence's timing takes longer than a deadline in working days, the challenge settings warn you — learners couldn't make it.
  • With a fixed date, learners who join the sequence after the date go through it without the challenge.

Results

ResultWhen
In progressThe learner hasn't met the completion criteria yet and the deadline hasn't passed.
AchievedThe learner met the criteria in time — they get the points and the badge, and a message by the sequence's channel (Slack or SMS if it's set and works, otherwise email) with a link to My overview.
FailedThe criteria can no longer be met (for example a test below the minimum score).
ExpiredThe deadline passed first. Meeting the criteria later still completes the sequence, but without the challenge's points and badge.

Points for lessons are kept in every case.

What learners see

On My overview, the Challenge section sits right below the lesson to do now. Its card shows the badge (in grey until it's earned), the title, how many lessons are done (2/5), a bar with one part per lesson, the deadline and the points for completing it. Tap the card to open it: the description, what to do, the lessons (done with their score, up next, or locked with the date they arrive) and the reward. When the lesson to do now belongs to the challenge, its card shows which lesson of the challenge it is (Lesson 2 of 3). Up to two challenges are shown, more under More challenges.

A completed challenge stays on top for 3 days, or until the learner's next challenge starts. Its badge then stays in Badges. A failed or expired challenge disappears from the top and its badge stays in grey in Badges.

The first invitation of the sequence mentions the challenge, and the end of each lesson of the sequence shows the progress.

What your team sees

  • Challenges in the left menu — all challenges in the space with their deadline, badge and how many learners Achieved, are In progress, Failed or Expired. Click a challenge to open it in its sequence.
  • In the sequence, the Challenge card at the end with the same numbers, and a Challenge column on the Learners tab.
  • The learner's profile lists their challenges with the result, progress and deadline.
  • The Dashboard shows how many challenges were completed in the last 30 days.

When you change a challenge of a running sequence (pause, edit, resume), learners already in it keep the challenge they started with.
